Title: External battery box for the dr680mkII, DIY or buy?
Post by: n3mmr on February 13, 2016, 09:02:38 AM
I've looked around a bit and I'm thinking hard, now.
I want a battery that will fit in the top flap compartment of a CS-680 case.

I'm in Europe which means there are much fewer models on offer.

I looked at the Tracer batteries, but even the 4ah LiPo battery would be too large and heavy. Above all way too large for the top pocket.

Tekkeon, Anker and RAV have all been the subject of quite serious warnings about frying equipment, suddenly dying on you and even putting out an unstable voltage with enough high frequency noise to cause problems.

I'm currently even considering getting two 4xAA battery holders and solder on a plug suitable for the dr680mkII. Then buying 16 Ready2Use NiMH accumulators and put eight inside and eight more in the outside pocket and connect to the power input.
With the 2.6Ah model AAs that should keep me running for at least eight hours, even with phantom power on all inputs.

Any comments? Am I missing some great accumulator model somewhere?

P.S. What is the proper power dc entry plug for the dr680?

Ive used Tekkeon (Instrument version with dip switches) and a Batterygeek 10-14-115 100wh with mine...no problems.

Sadly they are getting hard to find. Now I'm looking into this 132wh unit for replacement...

they have a smaller 12V 6000mAh version too...

Unfortunately Talentcell does not ship outside the US.

They do look great.

I bought this large one, likely based on your mentioning it in another post and it works great!  I had to purchase an adapter from RadioShack to fit on my 680mkii plug, but it works great.

What do you think about this?

I saw someone using one with a Zoom F8 recently and he said it worked great.  They are cheap too!
