Title: 12V battery box > AT853's?

Will a 12V battery box damage my AT853's? I've always just used the bulky SP-SPSB-1, and it would be nice if I could use a much smaller 12V bb instead

Maybe the SP-SPSB-8? Still 9v but a bit more compact...

I had a 12V battery box I got from Sound Pros, I used it with AT853's, worked great.

SP-SPSB-9 (12V) + SP-SPSB-10 (12V) here - both works great with AT853 also w/AT943

FWIW, I have used an 18V battery box with the AT853 with no issues. I was able to prove that 18v battery box was able to handle more SPL's than 9v battery box.

HOWEVER, although I can't prove this point, I believe that 18v battery box will still hit distortion easier than running them off of phantom power.

You can't run AT853's on phantom power.

People who think they do are actually using an adaptor that brings the voltage down to 9v.

I don't know much about the phantom power and adaptors. What I do know is that when I run off of phantom power w/ the adaptors it is running 3 wires. Battery boxes terminate 2 of the wires together, so it's just ground and voltage.

I run mine off a 9 volt 3-wire supply - between the increased headroom and locking connectors, I reckon this is the way to go...

I ran them for about a year with the 12V battery box. No issues.
