Best place to buy DIY SLA batteries and parts?
« on: April 22, 2004, 05:19:02 PM »
I'm looking to build a couple 12v and 6v's so I will always have enough power and was wondering where some places are to buy SLA parts and the actual batteries themselves.

Thanks!

could one use a Batt charger such as this?? For temporary untill I can afford a nicer float charger
http://www.action-electronics.com/grc/phcfc612.jpg

for this
http://www.batteryconcepts.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=SLPS-PS-6100&Category_Code=PS6V

and if so how can i tell it is charged. or about how long should I charge it?

Im looking at making a batt pack for the Jb3 that will run 8+ hours

I already bought a car adaptor so now Im just trying to get all the batt/ charger stuff figured out.

if i'm seeing the .jpg correctly, it says that it's output is 200mA for the 6V.  so a 12aH battery will need at least good 2+ days to charge. since the charge curve isn't linear, it's not exact.

i would try to find a higher output chager than the one above.

We use www.batterymart.com at work.

You can get a 6v or 12v sla batt from them for $9.95

As for charging, the best charger out there is prolly this one:

You can leave this one on your batteries between shows and it will NOT cook them.  It charges em, then keeps them charged with a pulsing charge.  I have one on my motorhome for our house batteries, and I used them for a number of other sla batteries that I have.

The initial price is high for the charger, (bout $100) but it is worth it because you will get 5 yrs + out of your batteries.
