What wire should I use for my SLA?
« on: March 12, 2004, 04:00:26 AM »
I'm building a couple 6V SLA's for my V3. Looking for advice as to what to use for wire.

Stopped by the local RatShack this past weekend and the only 2 conductor wire they carry is speaker wire. Will speaker wire work?

Tried mouser as well, but the wire and cable category has 6000+ entries and I really don't know what I'm looking for anyways.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Speaker wire will work.....I also have used lamp cord.   If you have a simple old extension cord laying around you can always hack the ends off and just use the cable (same for an old lamp)   I usually find something I'm not using around the house to come up with parts for most everything! :)

I like a sleeved two-conductor. It gives a little extra protection.

I don't know where in NJ you are.....
Denville has Lashen, Raritan has a good parts store, and so does Patterson.
Home Depot or Lowe's can stock good low-voltage cable as well.

Don't forget to get some plastic water main to make a hulahoop, while you're at Home Depot     ;D

i used some heavier stiffer wire from rat shack just because i feel like stiffer wire is easier to solder in place in those tiny holes in xlr plugs
