Want to run a comp of 722 AD vs PCM-D50 AD
« on: December 27, 2007, 12:10:11 AM »
I want to do a comp of 722 AD vs PCM-D50 AD (V3 as the preamp).

If I connect my D50 to my 722's tape out and my 722 to my V3, I understand my D50 recording will 1st pass through the V3 preamp and then the D50 AD bypassing the 722 preamp/AD??

722 tape out and line out signals are the same, right?

Thanks

How about:

V3 > D50

V3 > 722

It can be done.  Just tape the Pre-show music that the FOH is playing.  Swapping between recorders should take seconds.

There will be no problem to run a Y-cable. The output of the V3 is not detrimented enough to be noticed by connecting two line level inputs in paralallell as long as things are kept reasonably short and neat. Remember to turn off phantom on the 722 as well as the D50.

You will of course need two XLR Y-cables, one for each channel. They are not generally found in the stores readymade so you should either make them yourself or find someone to solder them for you.

Thanks!

T+ to both of you!

If I want to run V3 directly to D50, anyone knows how to work out the gain setting on the D50 so the peak levels are the same as the V3? I know the V3 line out is very hot and I already know the setting to run V3>722. Do I just adjust the levels by eye or it is calculated?

I might make the 2 Y cables myself.

Thanks again!

Hmm I changed my mind about making cables...too much work  ;) (also I don't want to spend anymore money - been spending too much lately  :o )

Just wondering about the tape out of the 722 signal if it goes through the DA/AD stage. If it does maybe best if I use my mixpre instead because it has both XLR and tape out so I can run both 722 and D50 without making/purchasing any new cables.
