Title: Littlebox / Tinybox w Audix Micros?
Post by: aleal5687 on May 20, 2011, 07:02:08 PM
Thinking about picking up either a littlebox or tinybox for my Audix M1245's.
Anyone else running a littlebox/tinybox with the micros?
Any luck running them lower than p48v?

I run a Littlebox with M1290s.  Here's a sample (but with CA11 omnis mixed in for a little more oomph in the low end).

I usually run matrices since I got my DR2D but have a few straight  M1290 to LB that aren't on archive, can post them if you're interested.

I have the dual 9V version.  For a long time, I was getting 4.5 hrs per pair of 9V.  Then my LB had some problems and I sent it in to Jon and I'm pretty sure he just sent me a new one.  The one time I tested battery life on the new one, it was more like 7 hrs - but just to make it even less scientific that was with Energizers, previously used Duracells.

As to the low voltage setting, I've never had the guts to run it at a show but around the house, I don't hear a difference between high and low voltage.  Perhaps it wold be a different story at higher SPLs, but not sure why.  Interestingly, I asked Cliff Castle at Audix about powering and he sqid they definitely needed 44+ V or they'd be noisy, that was not my experience, if there's any more noise it's pretty subtle.

Here's a sample of pure AUD:  Audix Micro M1290 (cards, DIN, 6' high, ~70' back, outdoors) > Littlebox > DR2D.

For comparison purposes, AKG C414EB > MR-1000 from a few rows closer:

Not that it really matters, but I could swear it came back in a brand-new-looking case, and with knobs that had different colored lines on them than the one I sent in.  Also the one I sent in had a Naiant sticker on it (that I put there), the case I got back had no sticker but you included one for me to add.  I can dig up the details if you're interested.

The Audix do not state a current draw, so I can't give any battery life estimates.

I used to run the Audix M1290c, and the current draw is a rather power-hungry 6.45 mA.

Thanks for all the samples will_s. Been thinking about picking up a dr2d also.

mshilarious I have a show coming up june 6th. I would be willing to send you my Audix 1245's in for testing after the show.

I will send you a email to sort out the details.

thanks
Arnold

The Audix micros definitely need 48v. I thought their draw was in the 10mA range but I can't find a stat to confirm that now.  They need a lot of juice!

You can also run the Audix with the Church "active" cable through 9v plug in power.  I've run Audix 1290c>Church cable>Littlebox plug-in power and had very nice results.

For the DIME users out there, here's one example: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?returnto=%2Faccount-cp.php&id=353086
