AD-20 with Miniplug input to JB3 question
« on: March 25, 2007, 07:34:06 PM »
hi,
I just got a Denecke AD20 with miniplug input mod

I've got AT853 mics with mini-xlr terminations and I use a custom made 3wire battery box to power them that has a stereo miniplug output. so...no I would like to insert the AD20 in the chain using its "modded" mimniplug input...and the question is: is it necessary to set the gain levels on both channels on AD20 using the miniplug input or not? I mean...how does the signal enter in the AD20 through that input (are they 2 different channels just like if you use the XLR connectors?!)

sorry for my bad english  :-\

last thing: do you know where I can find a toslink to optical miniplug cable with both right-angled connectors? I'm looking for this cable on the net but I couldn't find it

let me know and thanks in advance

Luca

if i understand your question
then yes you need to adjust the levels using both knobs just like you would with the xrl inputs

as for the optical cable, soundpros has one
there is also a site that sells the same cable for less (i will look for the link)

edit here ya go
http://www.mcminone.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=MCMProducts&category%5Fname=3829760&product%5Fid=24%2D4345

many people have used adaptors on straight ends too

thanks for the reply

anyway there's a problem with the cable you linked: the image shows a toslink to miniplug cable while the description says "toslink to toslink"...where is the truth?!  :-\

toslink is just the physical layer here....

a toslink jack is the square plug.  the mini is also toslink, but its a toslink "mini" tip type of plug.  that first cable is just what you are looking for.

answer by mcminone about that cable:

"We apologize for the confusion. The photo is wrong, the description is correct. We offer an adaptor that might work, the part number is 24-6570. Please advise.
