Newbie - Too Loud for my mics
« on: November 08, 2003, 05:51:57 PM »
Every rock show I've tried to record on my Sharp MD is way too loud.  I have some low end mics with power, but never use the power since everything is too loud anyway.  Even kind of acoustic shows - What am I doing wrong .... cheap mic??

Please help

you should use your power supply ... it will INCREASE the max SPL handling of your mics :) Check out the specs on your mics ... it should tell you what the max SPL with and without is.
ADK A-51s LE's > Oade W-mod UA-5 > Zoom H4n Pro if I bother to drag out a full rig. More often just the H4N Pro. My LMA tapes

I'm using a Sharp MD-SR60.  Mics are plugged into "mic in" input.

I guess I should use the power supply, huh?

Just to clarify - I have a "mic in" input and an "optical/line in" input.  Which are you suggesting?

thanks

optical line input accepts both a digital and analog line level sound, thats what everyone and myself is suggesting you use

Try it with the line. I think your distortion might be coming from mic in...

don't forget to watch your levels, make sure they don't go OVER 0dB, but they can hover there
