Cable Tester
« on: February 12, 2006, 05:03:32 PM »
Anyone happen to have the schematics for an mic cable tester?  While in school I made an unbalanced 1/4" cable tester, but I'm having a hard time coming up with anything for a 3 pin xlr.  Whirlwind sells them, but I know I can make my own if I can just find the details...

Thanks.

What are you trying to test?  if it's just a test of the connections, test for shorts and proper pin-pin wiring is pretty easy.  Its the same thing as testing an unbalanced cable with an additional continuity check for the 3rd signal path and a couple of additional short test lines.  I guess you could also test to see if the signal pins are wired properly and not crossed.

Try this. It's for both 3 and 5-pin XLR. You can ignore the extra pins and make the entire thing smaller.
Out of the game … for now?
