ISO nice quality coiled 3.5mm TRS extension
« on: August 16, 2015, 10:46:28 PM »
Hello!  I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a place from which I may be able to purchase a coiled 3.5mm TRS cable extension.  I'm looking for a cable that has a stereo male on one end and a stereo female on the other, and is made with a coil / spring in it so that it can stretch to extend.  Ideally something that could stretch to around 15ft would fit the bill.

There's plenty of these things knocking around on Amazon, but I am pretty suspicious of all of those $5 cables they have available.

Thanks in advance!

Edit to add:
Here's a link to a cable that is very much what I'm looking for-- but it's $1.68.  I'm not opposed to paying very little for a cable, but I am very strongly opposed to paying for a junk cable!

Hi Travelin

I have seen a few coiled cables from China like that but they have all been 3 conductor NOT 2 conductor + a shield. Not sure what the application is. Do you need a proper shield?  I'd guess you would. Not sure if Ted or any of the other cable makers can get raw coiled shielded cable appropriate for 3.5mm.

Good luck! I'm interested to see what you can find.

So far this quest hasn't gone too well...  Ted isn't able to make the cable and I'm not able to find anything that is priced in a way that instills any confidence...  I'm still hoping that someone is able to weigh in with a solid lead!

there are a variety of unterminated coiled wire I see on ebay but it would be experimental to see which one may be more durable, if you are willing to give it a go let me know, we could try a couple
