recording under football jersey
« on: December 01, 2003, 02:50:42 AM »
I was told by a guy at  guitar center that for stealth recordings you can attach the mics on your shirt and wear a football jersey over them and that would not impede the recording.  Has anyone tried this or think that it would work. Just checking before I fork out $50 for a jersey.

Don't fork over no $50 for no stinkin' jersey. There are much less expensive, more creative ways to mount your stealthies.

Do you know if the mesh would impede the recording?   I could probably borrow one from one of my sport fantic buddies.

clip them to some glasses, or a hat

you want them as high as possible, pointing forward

mesh wont impede the recording...most stealth tapes that I have made have either been inside of a Kangol hat with a mesh type exterior, and even a couple under a thin cotton shirt...only thing you have to worry about is the fabric brushing up against the capsule...

black baseball hat, turn the hat around, let the wires run down the inside of your shirt in the back (make sure its a little longer than normal), tuck the md, cables, bat box in your back pocket of your jeans.  you can clip the mics to the front of the hat, the bill of the cap will cover the mic cables till they get in your shirt.

the only thing people will see will be two little things popping off the front of the hat.  if they give you any weird looks, just act like you don't want to be there, and look sternly at the band.  everyone will leave you alone.

I'm a fan of the shoulder mount - poking thru a coupla carefully placed holes.  I can't keep my head still if I'm into the music.  I figure my body partially acts as a baffle for sounds from the rear as well.  Probably gotta be tall for the sound to be OK in a tight crowd.

I used to run the mics on my shoulders with mediocre results.  once I put the mics in my hat....the sound is markedly different...I would recommend it!
