Title: R4 Battery help
Post by: alienbobz on September 04, 2013, 02:22:52 AM
Hey guys, I am getting back into taping. I have a Busman Modded R4. I used to run the Wally World batteries, but they seem to be dying on me. I know at least one is dead and the rest don't seem to run that well. I have to switch out the batteries mid show just to be safe. I am looking for something that will last the whole show, if not more. I also prefer to not spend more than $100 if possible. Thanks!

Naztech PB15000 Universal Power Bank Charger / 9,12,16,18,19,20,21v & 5v USB Port   / Size N, 5.50mm OD × 2.50mm ID
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007URKIGC/

You will need to build or buy a reverese polarity cable (Size N, 5.50mm OD × 2.50mm ID > Size M, 5.50mm OD x 2.10mm ID)

Another option is check with kirkd, I believe he still rebuilds the WallyWorld DVD batteries (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=153993.0).

Beat me to the punch. I, too, would hit up KirkD. Fellow tapers seem to be very happy with the DVD batteries once he rebuilds them :) And its probably much cheaper than buying new batteries!!! Or you could just sell the R4 and get a different deck or instead of an all-in-one deck, you could save a bunch of cash and go with a preamp>M10 rig, which would last a LOT LONGER than a whole show. I can run my M10s for around 20hrs each with 3 year old Energizer 2300mah AAs ;) Plus its WAY SMALLER than an R4!!!

Smart move on keeping the gear too ;) I dont EVER see myself NOT taping! I will probably tape until the day I die. I hope so anyway 8)

TGA - How long does that battery typically last? Would the cable be a radio shack one or would I have to get a different one?

Flipp & Bean - Thanks for the advice on the replacing the batteries. I will have to figure out how much that would cost me and decide what to do. I have about 3-4 wally-world batteries.

Bean - Not sure I can switch out my recorder right now. Part of the reason I decided to keep my rig was because I wasn't getting much offers on it. Plus I just love the ability to run four mics.

Not sure how long but definately as long if not longer then a typically Wally world batt.  The rat-shack cable would be fine,  N-tip > M-tip reverse polarity.  If you have one already you would just replace the B-Tip with a N-tip.

Well my Wally-World batteries seemed to only last 2-3 hours before I had to change them. Granted I got worried at shows because I did have one run out of juice a few years ago. I usually have to change out the batteries just to be safe.

what mAh is it?  I have seen manny different mAh DVD batteries including 2555, 4800, 5400 or 6000 mAh.  For our uses i wouldn't even bother with anything less then 5400.
