Been considering rx7 for a while, and the new music rebalance process is intriguing.
Wondering if anyone's played with it, specifically curious as to whether it works well for bringing vocals up when they seem distant in the recording.
Anyone played with it?

I love love love it.
HOWEVER, it's not magic. And if something is faded/distant in a recording, like vocals in a distant audience recording, it doesn't have much to "grab" onto to extract. It works best with clean soundboard type sources where things are clear, but just low.

I've gone as far as turning up vocals 6dB in an audience recording where they weren't much visible, or bass down 6dB in a small room audience recording where it overwhelmed the room. It works really well with small moves, sometimes 1/2 or 1 dB makes real differences. I at least see what it can do with every recording now.

Yes I’ve used it once on a recording where I was too close to the stage and the drums were too loud. As others have said it really depends on how clear and clean the sources it does wonders with studio material. Distant roomy auds not so much

Been playing with rebalance and my Neil recording from Matt Knight Arena here in Eugene.
If I tune sensitivity right, I can boost vocal and cut everything else, and end up with something like a vocal track. It gets weird in some spots...
Thinking I can run this module on a copy of the stereo tracks, edit out the weird bits, and mix it back into the original tracks, boosting the vocal.
Tried a 1 minute test, and seems promising...

Having good results playing w rebalance to make vocals more present in a recording of John Mayall this week. Room a bit boomy, and absorbent.
Exported wav from Audacity, ran it through rx rebalance with vocals +2db, everything else -36db.
Imported that back into Audacity and mixed in 3 db down from the original track. Vocals more present, but not overly, or harsh-sounding.
Wondering:
1. Maybe I should apply the inverse to the original track and see if that sounds the same as the mix-down
2. Would judicious eq could have achieved something similar, though I guess it would boost everything in the freq range of male vocals..
Feedback?

The Leveler menu works for me to increase the gain in vocals or banter while at the same time holding down the other higher gain stuff. My assumption is that it is another form of gain/compression.

I do think it works differently than that, because you can also virtually eliminate the vocal or bass. Something else is going on. It doesn't feel like a frequency or compression boost, but an actual "moving forward" or "moving back" of that single element.

Recently recorded a show where an audience member sang along, but a phrase ahead of where the actual singing happens, during the misic prior.
Perfect use of rebalance to cut that vocal all the way out, and not touch the bands instrumentaiton.

their examples are impressive and it appears on par with izotope
the fact that its an open source thing is great. perhaps it will be developed to work better with less than ideal sources like our AUDs

I will say after trying Rebal on numerous poorly recorded sources, it won't do much of anything with smashed up garbage. The better the source, the better the result.
