Valence NCharge Competitor?
« on: October 22, 2004, 12:12:13 AM »
Battery: http://www.batterygeek.net/BG1521118.htm

Test was done on an Acer Aspire 2003 laptop with my LIon battery in. It's possible that it has a longer battery life if you run the external battery without the laptop's battery in the computer. From what I understand the external battery is powering my laptop battery. But then, I'm not all that hip with this whole thing and only going by what I've been told.

Okay, I:
burned 4 cd's
had screen on bright for 4 hours
been playing flac files for 3 hours
recorded 6 hours of 24/48
played solitare for an hour (yes, I have a very exciting life)
surfed the internet (taperssection.org of courseĀ  ;)) for a couple hours.

Downloaded 100mb

Almost exactly on the 6th hour, the battery kicked the bucket and my laptop battery kicked in. Comparable to the Valence NCharge VNC-130 $250 model.

The ONLY complaint I have about this battery is that I would have the cord a little bit longer. From the battery to the plug, it's only 14". I might make it a little bit longer so I could keep the battey tucked away in my bag. Other than that, I'm not sure if any other battery is really necessary. For $180 shipped I don't think that anyone can really go wrong.

sounds interesting.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

Also, I'm not sure how big the NCharge is, but it looks a heck of a lot bigger than this thing. The battery geek battery measures about 4"x7"x3/4" and weighs ~ 2 pounds. You can't get much smaller than that.

Big Ol' +T. I just sent in my specs and it looks like this might be an option for my Sager that has an "odd" adapter plug. Valence is unable to help and do not make the adapter I need. Woo Hoo! Thanks again!

If anyone is interested in buying or at least checking into one, let him know (Sean is his name) you heard about the battery from here.

well, I'll tell ya.
I bought one that's white (older model) and the thing sucks.

When I was asking Sean about stuff, he answered emails in minutes, answered his phone on first ring, etc. I ordered a batt over the phone, got it, went to tape Allmans and Haynes for Labor Day weekend. Got all of Haynes, and the thing shit out during the last 20 mins of Allmans set. My laptop is tweaked for minimal processes except for the audio and i closed the lid so the screen was off. I charged it and used it according to specs and it still shit the bed. 8- 10 hours my ass. 30 day guarantee my ass. warranty ...yep you guessed it MY ASS. Guess what he can kiss?
I've tried and tried politely but no phone calls are answered by sean, emails not responded to either.
Buyer beware.

That's rough Adam. Last night I taped 3 hours of 24 bit and I still had 3/4 of the battery full. The battery I have is great. Sorry to hear about your problems with them.

It's funny because after I started this line of bad vibe crap which I absolutely hate ( I trust people implicitly, you know) sean emails me to offer a refund. I suggest he send me a replacement batt and he says OK. So, Im getting one of the new ones and I believe it will work out good.  Nice hearing someone here already had good news about the guy. I'll be sure to post back after I run the new batt through the gauntlet.
BTW Dell has a recall on power adapters for laptops. Check out here:

I got mine and it works awesome. I only get about 2-3 extra hours on my laptop, but that is because my is a very power hungry machine. I got the battery and my adapter was accidently missing (it was a non-standard plug). Emailed Sean and he answered it within 10 minutes and within 20 minutes got a shipping notification that it had been mailed 2 day priority. My customer service was exceptional!

When the battery is being charged, make sure the light on the charger is green before you go use it. My first use of the battery I only got about 3 hours out of it, but I didn't realize that the light was still red.

I ordered this battery over a week ago, paid ten bucks for 2 day shipping and I haven't received a thing.  I emailed Sean and he said he would look into but he hasn't responded since.  this battery better be good cause I'm real disapointed now...

I have the exact same battery but just rebranded by Polarmate. I've never had problems with it and there was plenty of power. Not truley sure how long it lasts though. I never tape longer than like 4 hrs total.
