I have a SCUD P130 that I use to power my TASCAM DR-70D
It has 2 outputs - One is labeled 1A and the other 2 A
The TASCAM DR-70D stock power supply is 1.5A
So - does it matter? Does it just figure into the runtime?
It seems to work on 1A.
But I'd hate to find out Im shortchanging the phantom (or something)...
Adding to the confusion - Some of these charger batteries are rated 1A, some 1.5A, and some 2A.

Pretty sure as long as the battery >/= device then you're OK. The device will draw what it needs.

I have a PNY portable cellphone charging battery that I run a DR100MKII on from the units USB output to the wall wart input. I have the choice of 1A or 2.4A outputs. It has a digital readout that tells you what the device is drawing for current. Running on record with 48p on and the backlight on dim the deck only draws .5 amp. I can't imagine the DR70 draws any or much more current than that. Either output should be fine. The device is only going to use as much current as it requires, it's not like it will kill your machine.

Ok, so I think this thread cleared up a question for me. I have 70d on the way. Need to get an external battery for it. So 1 A will power the 70d, but it won't harm the recorder if the output is 1.5A or 2A, or higher?

I have a couple 5V USB batteries I use for my PMD 661 and they have 1 and 2.1 amp outputs. In a thread about batteries someone had picked up a USB meter and tested the 661 with 48P and it draws about .5 amp. The meter costs about $10. I don't use 48P so I want to pick up a meter to test my batteries. I think it will be about the same so a 12000 mah powers a 500 ma for 24 hours. I pick them up on ebay for about $8.50.

For ensuring battery amp rating is sufficient for your recorder, you'll probably want to stick with the specs and not rely on the meter reading under steady state conditions. When you switch your 661 on, it needs more amps to account for the power in-surge the device draws on power up. The meter might briefly tell you the peak amp draw when you power up, but it might not respond quickly enough and if it's not a digital meter, the needle might have some overshoot.

The meter is just something I would try to make some measurements but I still would run tests. Powering it on with battery and also powering on with a powered USB connection. The meter should also draw a little.
