portable speakers
« on: March 31, 2012, 09:45:24 AM »
As summer approahces I am looking for a portable speaker or speaker system to take to the beach.

I live across the street from the beach so I dn't necessarily need small.  Would like something that can pump out the jams!

Anyone?

A little out of my budget.  For that I'd buy these:

I'd also like to find some small powered speakers to run in my delivery van at work to run my iPod through. I've looked at computer speakers, but they seem poorly made and would most likely not hold up to being set up / torn down on a daily basis. (Boss says I can't heave anything in the van over night as it would be a target for thieves.)

I was looking for something along these lines a few months back.  At the advice of some head-fier's I picked up a Fiio S9.  Sounds pretty good for what it is.  I actually used it the other day to show a friend the sound difference between high bitrate mp3's and flacs (he thought it all sounded the same).  I think it's telling of this little speaker that said friend now only asks me for flacs.

The FoxL speaker is bad ass for it's size:

http://www.soundmatters.com/foxl/index.html

Had a couple of chip amp setups before and it's just too much to lug around.  This bad boy sounds great in a hotel room environment--listening to Piper At The Gates Of Dawn right now on it.

A buddy of mine is a recording engineer and he is always amazed that so much sound comes out of such a small device.  The best thing is that it has decent bass for being tiny.

Check out the Logitech S715i, great sound and has a built in recharable battery as well.

Anyone tried the Bose Bluetooth contraption?  I generally avoid Blose b/c of both the sound and the ridiculous markup, but in this particular area I could see it being a solution:
