Adding Another Mic Set
« on: January 17, 2019, 12:02:05 PM »
I'm looking to add a second set of mics to my rig. I currently run rapid adapter >  Rycote mount w/low profile base for my main setup. Is there some type of plate or adapter that I can order to simply add another threading for a second Rycote shockmount or should I just buy a small clamp for just this purpose? I suppose I could rig a piece of aluminum but I'd love to just grab and go.

Do you already own a clamp, like the "standard" Windtech clamp a lot of people around here use?  If not, that's probably a good purchase anyway.

I just have the regular super clamp for now. My main rigs are:

Stand & Pole: Stud > Rapid Adapter > Rycote Mount
Clamp (balcony setup): Super clamp > Rapid Adapter > Rycote

I guess I'm looking for options with the clamping setup - I'd love to only have to deal with one clamp if I can get two mounts on it.

I may grab the windtech clamp for the pole/stand setup though.

Also, just to clarify, I would be using the second mount with a SRS bar for NOS, so I just need to grab another shockmount.

The Windtech clamp is surprisingly versatile.  I've used mine on smaller diameter railings, and used it in conjunction with a wood clamp for attaching my rig to a large column.  I pretty much always bring at least one with me.

I'll grab one today with my Markertek order. Thanks.

I don't use the SRS products, but have been following them and note all the folks here who do use them. Iirc, someone has had them make a single mount for two sets of mics, one shock mount. Hopefully someone can throw down some info here that has used SRS as to if this is a good idea for your rig. OTH- At least one Windtech C clamp is a handy tool to have in the toolbox (or gear bag to mix metaphors).

I had a combo mount made for the AT4031s.  Works well, but more expensive than some of the other mounts and I'm not sure why.

Windtech is a great clamp, but I would personally throw a vote out for a Rowi 76 clamp.  A little smaller, and I prefer the versatility of ball joint attachment screw on the Rowi over the fixed vertical/horizontal option of the Windtech.

I was looking at those on ebay, but I have an umbrella adapter, so that does most of what the ball head would do with a bbit of an increase in size.

When I run two sets of mics nowadays I usually run them -

Rapid Adapter on top of stand > SabraSom Tbar > Rycote INV1s > MBHO actives

Windtech clamp > Schoeps A20 > delrin riser > Vark bar > Schoeps mini clips > MK41 Nbobs

I'm trying to switch out the really unwieldy tbar/Rycote setup for a smaller profile A20/Kwon bar setup for the HOs
Line Audio CM3/OM1 || MBHO KA500 hyper>PFA|| ADK A51 type IV || AKG C522XY
Oade Warm Mod and Presence+ Mod UA5s || Aerco MP2(needs help) || Neve Portico 5012 || Apogee MMP
SD Mixpre6 || Oade Concert Mod DR100mkii

pocket sized - CA11 cards > SP SB10 > Sony PCM A10
