Title: How to run CA-14 into Tascam DR 680?
Post by: HealthCov Chris on September 05, 2016, 06:40:38 PM
I want to run my CA-14 mics as a stereo pair into my Tascam DR 680, but couldn't get it to work.  Anyone know how to do this?  I want to run my AKG 461's (PAS) into channel 1&2, Studio Projects C4's (XY) into channel 3&4, and CA-14 (split omni) into channels 5/6 so that I can matrix it all together.  I attempted to perform this task using a 1/4 inch y-cable going from CA-14 mini > mini coupler > mini to dual 1/4 splitter > Tascam dr 680 channel 5&6, but I was unable to figure out how to get it to work.  Any input would be appreciated.

Not really sure, but a couple details might help here. What happened when you tried - no signal, faint signal, mono signal? Also - what are your settings for the channels 5-6? The DR-70D has a mini input and I've been able to run my CAs into that with no problem, with a preamp and the DR-70D channels set to line in on low gain.

Did you try to add your CA Ugly Pre into the chain? Try that with the splitter and coupler between the pre and Tascam and see what happens. There's a lot of factors here so I bet we can get to the bottom of it.

Are you using a preamp or battery box for your CA-14 mics? Judging from the info you have provided, this could be the problem.
I run CA-14 > CA-9200 > 680 frequently. Seems like you are using a lot of connectors/cables. Here is how I do it with the breakout cables Ted makes for the 680.
(You could also simply get a stereo 1/8” male to dual male xlr cable to go straight into the 680.)
Set channels 5 & 6 to line in, and of course make sure they are armed.  My breakout cable (interconnect) for channels 5/6 is a ¼” male (680 end) to female xlr Gak-cable.
I use a dual male xlr to 1/8” mini stereo cable to connect the 9200 to the breakout cable.
