DR60d issue
« on: July 03, 2014, 11:05:51 AM »
Recorded 4 channels on first outing. 24/48. At about the 53 minute mark of a 2 hour recording, lost audio on all for channels. It recorded the whole 2 hours, just no audio after the 53 minute mark. I'm using a no-name SD card. But I figured if it was a card problem, the whole file would be corrupt? 2 hour show, 1.95 gig, that sound right?

I'm at a loss. Anyone have any ideas?

1.95gig for a 2 hour show at 24/48 sounds about right. What mics/inputs were you using? Is there a phantom power switch on the DR-60D that somehow got knocked off or something like that?

It should be about 3.9 GB for two hours of 24/48 four track.  1.95 GB is more than 53 minutes, though.  Strange.  Maybe try testing the card?  There are some free/shareware utilities for that...You could also just try running the card for a few hours and see if it happens again.

2 1.9 gig files, one for each set of mics. Phantom on one, not on the other. Going with a known good card for Horsnby tonight. Got to be the card......right? I just cant figure why the whole files aren't messed up

If you have time to let it record your tv at home before going it's worth replicating. Could be coincidence but that's pretty close to the 2gb file limit. I wonder if it was trying to split?

You probably did this, but it's a good habit to do a quick format prior to each show for good measure.

Pretty sure that's wrong. I always used to accumulate c.4gb in 2 hours at 24/96, and now I get 4gb in 1 hour at 24/192. I think he'd get c.4 hours for 4GB at 24/48....

Ah yes, I didn't realise all 4 channels were recorded onto one file!

^^^ From his post above, he actually got two 1.9 GB files, but, from the original post, it sounded like he only had one. So it seemed like he was "missing" a couple of gigs...

Damn thing shut off in the middle of a show last night. Like completely off. Think it might be the Chinese power supply; maybe blips when it switches cells. Ran a test this morning, if the usb kicks off, the AA batts kick in. Going to leave in for safety tonight; don't want it f'ing up during moe.

This is a good habit all the time in my experience. I run external batteries whenever I can but always keep internal batteries in as backups just in case.

Power issues can make very unexpected things happen.

fwiw there is nothing quick about the dr60d format, at least not a 32gb sandisk ultra card

Huh. I did a format the first time, and it didn't seem to take long at all. Maybe it was the "quick" format. Again, if it had corrupted the whole file, that's one thing, but the fact that it kept recording.........did something similar at moe. Friday night (shut down when I checked it), but I was busy tending my FOB rig. And drinking too much lol. Story of my life

maybe there is a quick format, for some reason I'm thinking the wording on the menu I did was initialize

What kind of card are you using?
How big is it? The dr60d will not handle over 32gb, the one time I tried a 64 it wouldn't even read it so I assume you are using 32 or under
Where did you buy the card?
Have you used the card in another device without issue!

Just trying to help you eliminate the card as the issue or not

Cheap no name card sounds like the culprit to me. And unless I'm at a festival I format my card before I use it. That seems to be good practice IMO
