let me start off by saying first, that i know in theory, when you normalize, you are actually increasing the volume in some parts of the wave by some differential based on the difference between the lowest and highest point. and second, i have normalized almost everyone of my recordings and have not experienced anything quite like this before.
i now remember why i stopped fucking with this file months ago
so i have attached two screen shots of the wave, before and after the normalizing (to -0.1dB) and as you see, the after shot has the wave completely wonky... it is like i just cranked the volume. i am curious if i should just forgo the normalizing with this show. although i do like the extra presence that the volume bump offers, it does also accentuate the stealth artifacts.
my main concern is that there is a section of the show, near the end, where there is noticable clipping of the wave and i dont want that to translate to the finished product with digi artifacts on a cd.
any tips or hints are welcome.
(oh and the recording is ziggy marley from 11-23-06)
