Kind of a Poll: How are you using your DR-680?
« on: August 27, 2010, 03:23:24 PM »
A/ Are you attempting traditional multi-tracking on a limited scale, i.e., close-micing drum kit/instruments/guitar/vocals/etc with specific use mics, and recording multiple mono tracks for later mixdown, perhaps using all eight tracks?

B/ Are you using your 680 'live', to record two or more stereo tracks, i.e. alternate stereo pairs, with maybe some room mics to add later?

C/ Other use (please describe).

D/ How many tracks do you usually make use of?

Any ideas, new approaches, or other feedback would be interesting.

thanks
Dave

why didn't you set this up as a poll?

I chose part of B... I do 2 or more stereo pairs, not necessarily to be mixed later

I generally do 2 stereo mic pairs plus a SBD source if available
I will take 1 mic source and use it by it self and then use the other mic source with the SBD
I have the capability to run 3 mic pairs plus a SBD, but haven't felt the need to do so yet

Thanks for your input darby. Yeah, I could have done a regular poll, except I'm not really interested in the statistics so much as in seeing how people are making use of their tracks, and perhaps getting some new ideas from feedback.
cheers
Dave

I pretty much do what Darby said.

The DR-680 came in handy over the weekend when I got a last minute (mono) board patch for Cracker/CVB. It was very easy to just put it on channel 6.

I do have a local venue where I'm going to be able to get individual feeds for individual instruments and mix them all down later on. They just don't have good music scheduled there lately.
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

I use mine for interview work and recording live acts as a backup to the multitrack rig utilizing a sbd and room mics. Tom
