Title: Opinions on Shure A53M Mounts
Post by: crunchy on August 27, 2003, 02:57:10 AM
I am thinking of getting new shockmounts. I have the Audio Technica mounts right now but  they  are a bit too bulky to fit in my bag. I've been looking at the Shure A53M mounts, anyone use them with neumann KM-185s?

I have these and i think they are great. I've owned the at's and i like these much better fwiw. Never used em with the 184's but i'm sure they'll be fine. MUCH smaller than the at's

Can anyone find a better price than $34.99 each for these? I found them on musicians friend, its their guraanteed lowest price and I havent seen them any lower anywhere else. Lots of retailers have them for $41

Will the 185s fit in them?

Go with the shure's they have better attenuation ratings on 200hz and below than almost anything else out there, they're small enough to run fob and not be in the way, I use mine on a shure vert. bar, and run Josephson C-42s (just about the same size as KM185s)

peace, chris

check out DATBRAD on the Oade board I think he uses the Shure mounts.  The KM-100 fit in the A-20S but they are tight!.

just as long as you twist the mics in, it's really easy, if you try to push them in it can be difficult!!!!

One thing to note about the shure a53m - they don't work with the akg tbar, as the threads on the shocks are too shallow.  The screw goes all the way to the top of the threads, but the mount won't lock down to the bar, it just spins.  There are work arounds for this, but just an fyi.

Sorry if that is confusing...

not confusing at all, thanks for the info. would adding washers to the thread fix this problem?

Yeah, adding something to take up the extra bottom space should work.  Not sure what would work best, but could be fun trial and error I suppose.

enjoy - if you find a good workaround, let us know!

wonderful! I like my AT mounts, but they are rather bulky, and it'd be nice to downsize a wee bit
