Just wondering, what else is out there applicable for our hobby?  Everyone knows the big names like AKG, Neumann, Schoeps etc... but I saw two threads in the Rig Pics section about mics I've never heard of...  so I'm just wondering what else is out there.  I realize the possibilities are probably endless.

They are absolutely endless.  Problem is most folks in this hobby have tunnel vision when it comes to mics.  You have to be willing to try something new that no one else is running.  Like Avensons, Beyerdynamic, Berliner.

I nearly grabbed a pair of Calrec 1050's last night.  I was seriously interested in picking up that pair of Violet Design "Finger" mics.

I'm contemplating a pair of T.H.E. mics in the near future as well.

I could buy Schoeps, Neumanns, DPA, etc. if I wanted to.  I've bought and sold lots of Neumanns, AKGs, etc. in the past, in fact.  I just choose not to use them for a variety of reasons; one of which is I want to try things that are less common.

Lots out there.  You just have to be bold and not be afraid to try something new sometimes.

Ahhhh, you saw my threads 

Lots of other boards out there that have discussions about mics that aren't generally well known here, but are applicable to our needs.  Find something that intrigues you, then do the interweb search.   I know what sheppies, dpa, neumann, akg all soundlike, their particular characteristics.  Some of them I like, some not so much.  But what I don't know is what other mics sound like.  Sometimes you have to take a chance.  So many options out there, I don't want to be limited by the product line of 4 microphone providers, well the big 4 that most everyone uses here anyways.

Sonodores are very nice, but damn expensive. Thurresson is a new swedish brand(or Dane?) that is supposed to be the KING of stereo mics...t-bone, royer, blue, red, violet, cascade, coles(I just bought two Coles 4040..mm mm mm!, crowley and tripp, nevaton, shinybox, Charter Oak, KEL...

maybe this is a mental thing, but I detest having the same things that everyone else has. It has to be boring to go to a concert and see 4 of the same rigs, I would think.
