ADK mics
« on: September 13, 2003, 02:36:42 PM »
I know there are a few people that have some experience with these mics but I'm wondering how much the sound varies from different models.

Seems most run the TL's .   How do the straight up 51 sound?  51-s ?

Basically I'm wondering if for about $200 a pair if 51s would sound decent ?

While I'm at it...anyone ever play with the Behringer B-2 or B-2 Pro??    Any comments on those?

low end on the SLE's (plewase specify which 51 you are talking about since almost all their mics are the 51!!!!)  is very smooth. I've really liked the results I've had with my v2 behind them.  I also own 480's and often find myself in a dilemma of which mics to run...it usually comes down to flipping a coin (unless the use of hypers is essential).   Bean--almost done with the garage a trois from rosebud fix....that was the SLE's (although not their most stellar performance).   I'll let you know.

I got some great prices from sonic sense on the 51, 51s, and the new S-series.  Now I guess I gotta decide how much I can afford, if I want to go LD, and if I want to leave team NAK. :P

I'd be running an ad-20 with some kinda phantom power box (ART II most likely).   Is there a huge difference in sound between the 51s and the 51sle?

I wish there was an easy way for me to test drive gear.

Interesting ;D  Be cool to see what they come out with in the small diaphram department.. I have the SC-T's and really love'em...  though having interchangable caps would be fun for experimenting.  Not a huge deal as I'm sure I'd run cards 90% of the time anyways...

I've run the A51s LE  > V2  >  AD1k. They sound great. I now run the TL's > V3 , but ran TL > V2 > AD1k until recently. I think the TL's are the way to go they are a little cleaner (card vs. card), but you wouldn't know unless you had a direct comp. The TL's were also designed for live taping. I think the LE's can get a little boomy, but not to bad. They are both fine mics, even compared to the AKGs.

I have the TL's now. Before I had them I got a pair of generis(adk) gc-1. I think these are pretty much the same as the a51. They sound great for the price. I can send a tape if needed

The TL's are the way to go. I have seriously thought about getting a set of LD Neumanns, but can't bring myself to drop the severe extra amount of cash when the ADK TL's give me all I could ask for. Extremely transparent when run with a V2. Add a Mini Me behind that, and like Moke said, like hot butter. My TL > V2 > MMe stage tapes are simply amazing. Section tapes from Phish and Panic are some of the best I've heard. I had the SC-T small diaphragm mics for a while before selling them, just because I was not using them. They sound good, but the TL's are simply fantastic to my ears, and it is a crime that they are charging so little for these mics now. When I bought mine, I paid roughly 1k. Now they can be had for an extremely lower price, which sickens me :P ;) . If you have the time, seek out some TL tapes, and judge for yourself. If you want a smooth, all encompasing transparent sound, the TL's are the way to go in my book. I love them, and not just because I own them, but because they are that good.
