Better yet...

Get there fairly early.  Talk to the sound engineer.  Ask to set up the following on stage:

1 or 2 of your cardioids as overheads on the drum set.
1 Cardioid (or, if the club has it, one of their kick-drum dynamic mics) on the kick drum.
1 dynamic mic (whatever the club has laying around) on the bass amp

Run them back through the snake to the board, and plug them in.  Since the band doesn't want them run into the mix (for whatever reason, doesn't seem like it's a negative thing to have your bass and drums properly mixed, imho), ask the engineer to run them - and everything else on the board - to an extra AUX send on the board.  Most club-level boards have at least 3 or 4 aux sends.  Most small clubs will also have you sending monitor mixes via the aux mixes (the biggest pain in the ass in mixing in small clubs imho).  This will let you build a custom mix for your taping without having to send the mix to the PA.  This is very easy to do.

You could also throw some mics facing the crowd on either side of the stage, too -- it'll add some crowd.  But,  you won't get them in stereo unless you run them through your mixer.. the aux mix will be mono, unless you can spare two aux sends on the board, then you can technicall have things hard panned left/right.
