24bit files on a JB3?
« on: June 07, 2007, 11:13:04 AM »
is it possible to transfer 24 bit files onto a jb3's hardrive from a computer?  are they playable?  i'm hoping to use my jb3 as just a storage device for 24 bit files this weekend at a festival.  i have access to a laptop, but it's not mine so i can't leave the files on there.  thanks in advance.

I believe the JB3 is a 16bit only device.

I think there is third party software out there that allows the JB3 to show up as a regular external drive.  then it wouldn't matter what you put on there, I think you  would still have to install Play Center

I dunno though, If it was earlier I could have sent you an external firewire/usb drive to borrow.

thanks mike.  i'm not too worried just looking at all my options.  worse comes to worse i'll just burn off some dvd's of the files.  +T

It should work - It should see and treat them as data...

Your not using the A/D so the 16 bit-ness is irrelevant.

I think you are thinking of notmad.
It requires registration and 35$ I believe to be able to drag and drop files to the jb3.
Installing notmad doesn't require having the JB3 playcenter software installed.

dbpoweramp Sveta portable audio also supports the JB3 - nice because it supports a ton of ipod type devices...I think 29 bucks...pretty sure Notmad was $25 - but I think it only works with certain devices.

you can store and listen to your 24 bit files on a jb3.
i also use a creative zen extra for my portable music player which will also play 24 bit files.
happy taping
thanks

So if I'm not using the JB3 A/D and running digital in from something else, I CAN go 24bit??

For recording you can send the JB3 a 24/48 or 24/44.1 signal and it will truncate the signal to 16bit.

What phil is trying to do is basically use the JB3 as an external harddrive.

Now that I've re-read the original question, things are much clearer. :)
