Title: external battery for a sound devices 702t
Post by: stereorific on June 15, 2016, 09:11:14 PM
awaiting delivery of a 702t and want advice on a suitable battery to run it.  i am gonna be away from any charging facilities for about 3 days so will need something to cope with that.  and after blowing nearly all my cash on recorder and mics I'd like to keep the cost to reasonable amount (below £150 if possible).

Right Angle Hirose connector

The cable makers here can construct the battery cable for you.

I think the aftermarket right angle connectors slip out of position way to easily and aren't half as good as a genuine straight connector. YMMV

I have only used the right angle Hirose a few times so far but I haven't had any issues yet.  Did you experience any issues with the RA connectors that I provided the link for above?

That's the only right angle "Hirose" that exists (afaik) and it isn't manufactured by Hirose, nor do they make a right angle connector.

Unfortunately I'm not at home, otherwise I would just take a picture. How you select the angle 12, 3, 6, or 9 o'clock) was horribly designed. A little teeny tiny metal tounge and groove holds it in place, until you use any amount of normal force and twist the input connector it's easy to rotate the position, which in turn kinks or strains the conductors, which can potentially cause a short.

These things are fine if you never intend to touch it, but when I put my 744T in a gear bag already crammed full of gear it becomes all to easy to accidentally twist the power connector.

With a genuine straight connector, there is zero risk of this occurring.

Thanks for the caution / warning info!

I think that I have enough room in the gear bags to use a straight, legit Hirose 4pin connector without fear of crimping the cable.  I'll keep the RA cables but obtain a straight Hirose connector cable in the meantime.
