Need help for a 4-channel set up
« on: February 12, 2016, 12:18:21 AM »
I'm looking to buy a new pair of mics for a 4-channel setup.  I currently have a matched pair of Joly Modded MK-012 with card, hyper, and omni caps.  I'm eyeing either a pair of Nuemann KM184s or Telefunkens ELA M60 FET.  The telefunkens have multiple capsules, the Nuemanns are a fixed cardiod.

I assume I'll be running one set of omnis 99% of the time.  Would I be wiser to buy the Telefunkens which provide a lot of options or the Nuemanns which force me to run the Oktavas as omnis? Thoughts?
mics: Joly Modded Oktava MK-012MSP, Telefunken M60 stereo set, Neumann ak40, ak43, or ak50 > Nick mod lc3 > Naiant PFA or km100
Pres: Sound Devices 442, Sound Devices MP-2, Grace Lunatec V3
Recorders: Zoom F8, Tascam DR-60Dmkii, Zoom F4, SD788t

I love the Telefunken sound, and if they come with multiple caps, then they're that much more versatile.

That's my two cents, at least.

This is my favorite Telefunken recording:
