DVD battery availablity with USB power output?
« on: February 06, 2008, 12:51:07 PM »
I've looked at many types of DVD universal batteries...but I'm confused on which ones have output to a Standard (female) USB connection...most I look at have female USB Input and Barrel type output connectors...

I want to power a 5th gen Video iPod with a Kensington 4 in 1 Charger/Pass thru dock (see below)...ditch the cigarette car charger bottom part and plug directly into a DVD battery...with as few adapters and cables as possible.

Or would it be difficult to build a RC battery sled and hook up a female USB cable? What voltage battery and any other circuits would be needed?

Thanks in advance.

to my knowledge there is NO dvd battery with a usb out
you need some sort of converter/voltage reg box in the middle

do you know the voltage a iPod runs on? i think its 5v (most usb stuff is)
you would be better off getting a battery pack made to go with the iPod imo http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=197615&WT.mc_n=92&WT.mc_t=U&cm_ven=COMPARISON%20SHOPPING&cm_cat=NEXTAG&cm_pla=DATAFEED-%3EPRODUCTS&cm_ite=1%20PRODUCT&cm_keycode=92
but if you did want to use a dvd battery you need a voltage reg between the battery and the iPod
you prob could also just use the cable that came with the iPod vs buying this cable you picture
Mics - AKG ck61/ck63 (c480b & Naiant actives), SP-BMC-2
XLR Cables - Silver Path w/Darktrain stubbies
Interconnect Cables - Dogstar (XLR), Darktrain (RCA > 1/8) (1/8 > 1/8), and Kind Kables (1/8f > 1/4)
Preamps - Naiant Littlebox & Tinybox
Recorders - PCM-M10 & DR-60D

AH....there's a reason I want to use this connector...as there will be a Micromemo under the dock (using line in with a Church Audio 9100 Pre)...and a power hungery Hard drive in the iPod above...Juice coming in on the USB cable...but no desktop/laptop in sight...

Check out this one too... I think you feed it Alkalines, but at $9.81 it's worth checking out.

There are specs regarding power supply over USB, and they aren't big.  I think it's 500ma max.

I have a thing similar to this for my iriver H120.  Works great.  What I do is start with a fully charged iRiver, plug this in right off the bat, and  this will "try to keep it charged", and mostly succeed.  It will last all day this way.  But if I run down the iRiver and then plug in the external, that's a big much for it.
