Title: AA Rechargeables
Post by: Nick Graham on January 05, 2006, 02:24:35 PM
Just wondering what everyone considers to be the best option for rechargeable AAs?

I've been using Energizer 2300 NIMH for awhile, but they seem to be losing charge quicker and quicker every go 'round.

Don't quite a few people use the Powerex brand? Thinking about picking up a couple packs of batteries and a charger, but wanted to gather some other opinions.

Have you tried cycling your batts 2-3 times, i.e. full discharge + full charge?  IME, that helps get some life back from your batts.

What charger are you using?  IME the Maha chargers are excellent, whereas the RS and Engergizer type chargers don't work as well.

I accidentally left my 2300mHa PowerSonics hooked up to my PMD 671 too long and I think I damaged them. When I put them into the LaCroose charger, the charger said "null." I put them in parallel with some good ones to give them a slight charge, and the charger accepted them OK. The problem is, they only charge to about 1800 mHa now :(

Johnny just sent me some 2500mah Energizer ones, and at the moment, I only have the Energozer CHDC charger, which is nice and compact but im not so sure its a 'smart' charger, so im wondering what others opinions are about this setup as well

like brian said, when you first get NIMH batts, its VERY important to FULLY charge them and then fully discharge them, I do this twice as soon as i get them and then maybe once a year discharge/cycle them again, because as i recall, youre not supposed to discharge NIMH packs TOO often(tho i still do when doing battery runtimes ;) ) remember, theyr unlike NICD batts which need discharged/charged(cycled) EVERY use to get maximum life

The Maha charger with PowerEX 2350s and Energizer 2500s {cheap at Target} have been working consistently great for me.

Johnny just sent me some 32500mah Energizer ones

Those are some MONSTER rechargeable AAs!  Who needs lead for 12v, just pack 10 of those babies together and you're covered for an entire weekend festival.  :P

Bought these of eBay Thursday, arrived via Fed Ex this morning:

Powerex NiMH 2500 Rechargeable AAs (I bought 12): http://cgi.ebay.com/MAHA-POWEREX-2500-AA-NiMH-Rechargeable-Batteries-NiMH_W0QQitemZ7576393829QQcategoryZ43445QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem

MAHA 8 battery charger:

The charger was kinda pricey, but exteremely nice. It has a "Conditioning Cycle" which will completely charge/discharge/recharge batteries, which should help add some life to my Energizer AAs I was complaining about earlier in this thread.

Bean & Brian, thanks for the info on the charge/discharge immediately process. I've got my D7, D8, and M1 all recording right now (all running line out with backlight on to speed up the process) to discharge the batts. Will probably do it again tomorrow...
