I got probs
« on: October 23, 2003, 02:07:45 AM »
Ok so my first tape wasn't successful.  Second Try primus tonight.

a51-tl>mme>c1vn.  Changed the jumpers on the mme from the last time.  Signal was way better this time.  No overs except at the end of first set.  I play it back on my computer and there are small pops throughout the whole show.  I don't understand what is going on.

Need some help in a bad way.

Sounds like a laptop configuration issue to me.  A little more info may help others to pinpoint the problem:

Are you running MMe > USB > C1VN?
Running at 16/48 or 24/48-96?
Any other details on your laptop setup would be helpful.
Have you tested the setup at home without problems?

You may also try posting at the Yahoo laptop tapers group.

I'll tell you this...it sure isn't the mme.  You can clip the el shit out of the unit, and you still won't hear it.  I think it is probably the computer.  Is it configured for audio?

Check the Archival Info section for tips on setting up your laptop for audio.  Also, there's a link there or the Other Websites section to a 24-bit recording FAQ that will have some good info.

try this thread http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?board=14;action=display;threadid=6717

/blatant fluffing of myself mode off ;)

another thing about mme (or any other sound card that doesn't go directly to pcmcia) and a picturebook is that the chipset of the motherboard seems to be a little behind the times for usb or firewire audio devices.  i say this from experience with both usbpre (usb) and m-audio fw410 (firewire) devices that didn't like to play nice with a picturebook at 24/48 or higher.  i know the guys at sonicsense had some troubles with a mme + picturebook combo also and tried using a usb 2.0 pcmcia card instead of the onboard usb slot and had better results, though i still don't believe it was perfect.

good luck though and enjoy primus!!!  keep us informed.

Thanks both of those documents were very helpful.  I was also reading on apogee's site that the minime does not really support 24/96 with usb so i guess i should be sticking with 24/48 or 16/44.1.  If any of you know n-track well and could suggest some settings that would be great or if you use another program like soundforge and could get me setup on that i'm will to try using that also.  This may also be a problem that i'm having, i have been relying on the levels lights on the mme durning my recording and not the levels on my computer should i be watching both.  Last night looked great on the mme, no overs or anything then it went to shit in my computer.
