i agree with the main point here...

you either want to spend more on the mics or even out the money you are spending on the parts


me personally for my setup
mics > pre > recorder (hd-p2)
1200 > 800 > 900

or for my stealth setup with at853'3 into an edirol r9
350 --> 400

the same even goes for my stereo

speakers > dac > amp
900 > 1000 > 1000


I am familair with a guy here in nyc who at one point was running AT853s into a da-p1
thats like 300> 1500+
imho thats not a smart move... if anything should be the other way around
but then again if u have great mics going into a minidisc that cant handle the mics.. err your not much better off

I haven't read the whole thread but 853's can make some damn fine tapes!  way better than you would think for the $$

I agree about the 853's.  I've heard some amazing tapes with those mics.
