m 148>V3
« on: January 31, 2005, 08:31:20 PM »
has anybody tried this? m-148>V3  The continous gain of 20 on the m-148  is fixed right? You turn it on and bam 20 db?Is the only switch on this thing is on/off?Seriously thinking of putting a m-148 in front of my V3 when need.(bad sounding venues)but there is no level adjustments on the m 148 right?Could I run the m148 right into my da-p1?

I ran this for awhile and loved it, as have a few others on this board.

m148 is fixed 20db, only has an on/off switch.... that's it.

you can run the m148 line into a dap1 if your mics have high enough output, the u89s did not put out enough juice to do this very well

I,m running dpa 4023,s so do they have enough output?would you calibrate the m 148 >V3 like you would calibrate any other pre amp>ad/converter.I have never thought of putting anything (pre-amp) in front of the V3 because  you cant bypass the pre-amp on the V3 and use it like an apogee and just use it as an a/d converter. But is it correct that when you use the digital in or analog in on the Apogee mini-me or ad-1000 your still using the pre-amp? I would like a moded sbm-1 to throw behind the m148 but if my da-p1  will work i can use that.I think the a/d  in the p-1 is just as good as a stock sbm-1 if not better.I m really looking in to my rig better for indoor stuff. The dpa>V3  is what I want in perfect conditions and something with a little a'color" or "darkness to it."I really like a nice midrange and  full low end in the tapes I listen to .The best fit for the V3 all around are Neumans Schoeps imo.

for the minime you cannot bypass the preamp, Todd R has explained this pretty indepth before, I'll see if I can find the thread. not sure about the ad1k.

I think you would probably be very happy with the m148. PM Jonny and see if he has any tapes of dpa->m148->v3 for you to hear.

here's one post where todd explains the "by passing the pre" thing a little bit. He's gone over this a few other times as well...

I am not sure but I doubt it. The DPA 402x series are quite low output mics (7mV/pa). Don't know how hot the U89's run, but when I ran some 140's with my V3 I had to knock the gain down ~5dB from my normal setup running 4022's.

Happy taping,
Ben

I know what you mean.i borrowed my buddies Schoeps and  had to turn the gain down  more than I.m use to with my dpas.

it is no heavier than an SLA and doesn't require one. Hands down my favorite setup when in an iffy sounding venue. I love the m148 and the v3, so why not run them together?

I ran the 140's>m148>V3 last DEAD tour  of which it is out on ETREE (I think)...I didn't post it someone wanted it and asked if he could post.   They are 140's and not DPA...so as long as you can sort out the diff, I can send you a CDR .  Did some M148>V3>MME and V3>MME stuff too.  PM if interested.
