Taper jacket suggestions ??
« on: December 24, 2013, 04:46:45 AM »
I'm looking for a new outdoor jacket (or light coat) with excellent  >:D capability.
Must-haves are: dark grey/black colour, a good big fairly stiff collar that can be stood up, and big and fairly strong inside pockets on both sides.
Bonus points would be: several good outside pockets and some of those shoulder flap thingys ('epaulettes'??) would also be handy (but not essential).
Don't mind if I look like a tool.
Anybody have any suggestions?

Try Scottevest.  Haven't used mine for taping yet, but I'm pretty sure they'll work nicely.

Hmm, interesting suggestion, thanks. This one looks promising (most of my taping trips resemble expeditions anyway):

27 pockets...useful for decoys. Not clear on inside pocket sizes though and only medium size, too small. Further research needed at my end.

Oh yeah, one more thing to add to the 'must have' list: low profile. ;)

I just use one of these North Face rain jackets:

http://www.thenorthface.com/catalog/sc-gear/mens-jackets-vests/mens-venture-jacket_2.html

Things I like about it:

1. Light. You can wear it when it's somewhat warm and not roast
2. Hood blocks cables...also can be used in case it starts raining. I've had to do that and the material doesn't block too much sound.
3. Pockets hold plenty of gear and in a manner that helps in  >:D situations.
4. You generally don't look like a tool...unless it's pretty warm.

I've had a Scottevest for several years and have had no major problems. Maybe newer ones are sturdier made. Mine kinda frayed rather quickly to a point and it is now what it is, which is OK.  I stuff everything in it. Cameras, recorders, MP3 players, cell phone, mics, you name it. The one I have has I think about 20 different pockets. It's served me well. I look for a new one from time to time, but I haven't found anything comparable.    Good Luck on your quest.

I was given a Scottevest as a gift a year or so ago.  I have used it to carry in gear and it rocks.  Great for  >:D ops too.
