Just bought a Thorens TD 150. It should arrive Monday. The fun will begin shortly thereafter.

It will have an oversized plinth..michell tecnoarm, benz m0.9 cartridge and look fabulous.

Remember this question? Should the plinth be black or wood?

Stay tuned......pictures later this week.

Just arrived today. Putting it together. It came with an OEM Jelco sa50st. I put the benz m.9 on it and I am now giving it a listen.

It sounds nice and allows the benz to really shine through. Not as much low end grunt as my td850, but close.

Stock, I would have to say that the AR is a better table...but with a Audio Mod tonearm arriving soon...I will be transferring my Tecnoarm to the td150. Also a new top plate will be added as well as a carbon fiber armboard a plexiglass bottom and spikes.

It came with a nice beefy aftermarket plinth...so no need to make changes there. I need to figure out what I'm going to do about the mat. I will also need to buy a dust cover...cats and kids.

I'll post pics later.

Here's a few shots. The tonearm board is really cheap and is made from thing "toy like" plastic. The tonearm is an overachiever and sound pretty good. It is a Jelco sa50ST OEM arm.

The table was not installed level into the aftermarket plinth, so I will have to re-install it, which I'll do after I put a new top plate on it. The new top plate will be green and will not have a hole for the tone arm lift, which is no longer needed for after market tonearms.

So here is what is going to happen to the table.

Michell Technoarm
Benz M0.9 Cartridge. Just re-tipped with less than 5 hours on it.
Carbon fiber arm board
New Matt........not sure what I'll go with and may try out a few things
Music Hall Cruise Control 2
Dynamat damping applied
Dust Cover

I'm still thinking about staining the plinth black and applying several coats of paste wax. I'll cross that bridge when I have it apart.

At least with that plinth you won't have to use the stock "dust cover" that has the big cutout so the tonearm weight doesn't run into it.

I've begun the work today. I took the table apart and I am waiting on a few more parts. I sanded down the plinth and stained it ebony. Two coats were applied so that nothing was missed. Tomorrow I will begin the paste waxing.

All the parts have been ordered and I am still waiting on the top plate, Cruise Control and 3mm carbon fiber panel, which will be used for the armboard. Meanwhile,   I'm  working on and getting every thing ready to go.

The ebony plinth will look great. Trust me. This is the samething I did to my Heresys  and they look fanstastic.

Btw....I now have a Jelco SA50ST arm for sale. First 125 gets it. I'll post it over in yard sale.

Well, after looking closer, the supplied plinth needed some work to get it up to snuff, so I have abandoned it. Instead I am having a local cabinet maker craft me a nice plinth made MDF and with burled walnut. It will be much better than the supplied one but cost accordingly. It should be worth it in the end.

Cruise control is in the house but it will take weeks to finish this project. However, it should be sweet when fin8shed.

Arm boards added. The board will be drill over the next day or so with the arm installed. Just waiting for the plinth to be finished. Looking good, so far!

Plinth is in. I need to install the mounting brackets, which I fabricated from carbon and kevlar, then secure the table. After this it will be up and running. Shouldn't be long now!

That copper-plated platter is nice. Did you clear coat it?

Yes, the copper platter is clear coated so that it will always be shinning. Here are 2 shots of what the table would look like when mounted into the plinth. Today I will be finishing the installation.
