Bullshit! You have to plan for at least a few hours ahead of time everything you're going to need, and where it's all going to fit. You can't just say "I'm gonna stealth" and get in the car. No way.

Ever since listening to the Springsteen stealth tape where the guy goes to the mens room, pisses, and then goes back out to the show, with tape rolling the whole time, I have been paranoid that my need to pee will fuck up an otherwise great tape.  So I go the dehydration route!  Now, if I could come up with an equally effective means of keeping my neck and back from hurting so much after being a statue for two hours straight-

it does take some prep, but no where near as much as that...I can be ready in about 15-20 minutes....once you get a routine down, it can be quick

I'll occasionally turn my body to one side and just keep my head facing forward - it helps my neck a good deal. Back is another story, though...I can't imagine ANYONE doing that for a full festival. That convo between Armen and Moke on another thread made my back hurt just reading it!  :o

Like hell. Two months ago, I would have said, it takes a little preparation, but not much, but now that I have my taping sack (aka one of those Rakgears or whatever, got it from Boswell) with everything in it, all I have to do it make sure:

1. I'm wearing clothes
2. I have a belt
3. My sack is in the car! (Learned my lesson of forgetting cables at home on October 12, 2003. It won't happen again.)

Hop in the car and go, yo!

I normally keep all my gear in full taping status, stand and all. To make the switch from open taping to stealth takes me at least a little while to decide how much I want to bring in. MD or DAT? MC012s or AT853s? Crotch or girlfriend's purse? Extra batteries or prayer? I spend at least a half hour researching the venue to see what kind of security I'll be up against.

I guess I'm just slow!

It's best that you clip your mic's onto your hat or throw them into the air by any means possible.  It is however possible to record from your jersey.  Ive done it before  =)

I recorded Static-X and Assesino at HOB Anaheim 2 years ago, and it was all under my jersey.  Came out pretty good.  Maybe a lil clipping because i was young and still didnt know how to use my equipment all that properly, but hey, it doesnt take much outa the quality unless you are in the pit and people are bumping into you, and you are squished.  THEN the sound will be lost.  I'd wanna keep it up in the air at all times, but if you need to stealth it because of tight security, jersey works decent.

On second look, I think it's just redundant.

i've got some soundpro binaurals and carefully placed holes in a number of different hats (i look like an idiot in a hat, so any hat i own is worthy of getting holes).    my md broke before i could really start using the gear though.
