say goodbye to your bank account, too?

Looking at some old photos that were made with large sheet film in the early 1900's, the image quality is amazing.  Even pictures made in the 1950s with 120 roll film seem better than 35mm.  Part of me wonders if they'll ever stop trying to cram so many megapics in a DSLR body and go back to the 4x5 or 8x10 format cameras of old.

The specs aren't really that impressive to me it kinda looks like a classy full frame 60d with too many mega pixels and nothing overly cool. Intrested to see what the final price tag is on it, no way it's the new flagship. I would have been very interested if the fps was higher or it had some interesting new function. The build quality looks good though

Mother that's expensive! No way that is good enough to justify the cost

I think the 5DsR (low pass filter is removed) is $200 more!  I think the 5DsR is fairly priced. As always, it is aimed at the early adopters, and will come down over time. Every new iteration of the 5D has been approximately that price point. I think the 5D3 was about $3,000 when it was first introduced.

Relatively speaking, when you get into the high megapixel count cameras (>40 MP) like the Hasselblads and Mamiyas, they are around $10,000 (although they are medium-format, where the sensor is much larger than even a full-frame sensor of the Canons, Sonys and Nikons). The Nikon 810 is the direct competition for the 5Ds, and that is around $3,000.

I'm more concerned that, if I bought it, at 50 MP, it will reveal all the flaws in my lenses and I'll have to upgrade to the mark II versions of each! The other thing I'd like to see is an improvement in high ISO performance where Canon has lagged behind the Nikon and Sony sensors.

At least with audio recording, I can have decades-old gear and pull great recordings. Photography still seems to be on an upward curve where every few years the tech advances and warrants an upgrade. Now being in both hobbies, well that's a ticket to the poor-house!
