Lemo connector for AKG CKx caps
« on: May 12, 2010, 08:59:36 AM »
looking to make some xtra cables for a battery box. a part number would be sweet. found this on the net as far as wiring goes:

The CKx system was not an active cable system.
You may connect the capsule as follows:
pin 1 ... Audio output
pin 2 ... + dc bias
pin 3 ... ground, - dc bias

Nice Tony!  Do you have a line on the lemo connectors?  Tell me more about the battery box.  You are planning to run with out the bodies?

i need a part number or type or anything. short of sending one of my cables to a lemo distributor for matching, what else can be done. yes, i'd like to run them without the bodies using a battery box similar to this one:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/163116-REG/Audio_Technica_AT8531_AT8531B_In_Line_Powering_Module.html#features.

Or having Jon make a little box similar to darktrains CMR batt box, if that would work, using a sony m10 for recorder.

as a last resort i could use the lemos on the xtra pair of cables i got from you but would rather not do that. if i find the right lemo ends could you make the "Y" cable, terminating in a stereo mini xlr for entry into the batt box? do lemos have part numbers on them somewhere. things are so damn tiny.

Yeah, Robb's new set up got me thinking how I could do the same thing with the ck_x system.  Sounds like we should give each other a call off line and work on this together.  I could make the splitter cable no problem.

Hey ts, do you have a link to your first bit (about the three pins you said was on the web?)

There's something I'm not getting here (I'm not new to recording, but I kind of am to the idea of 'high-end stealth recording').

You seem to be talking about phantom power and battery boxes,  then mention not needing the 460 preamp body...huh??

AKG CK61 (etc) capsules have just the one one center pin, and the threaded body connection. So... what third pin?

PS - I posted a thread in Mics and Setup on the possibility of making 'umbilical cords' for CKxx caps. That way, you possibly would not have to abandon your beautiful low-noise, low phantom current, C460B-ULS preamps 8>]

Cheers
Dave

Dave, He's not talking about CK61 type capsules, he's talking about CK1X type capsules... another thing altogether... it was AKG's active system... it's all vintage stuff.

I'm interested to hear if you guys ever figured this out.  I think you can use a 3 wire battery box... with 3 wires going to each mic.  They can probably share the the same +V and ground, as long as the signal returns are kept separate.

After calling AKG service techs, AKG parts distributors, google, AKG's message boards, and other sellers of AKG products I know who have been selling AKG for quite some time all I have been able to come up with is this:

the Lemo part # is FFA.0S.303.303
FFA= chassis type
0 = size
S = hermaphrodit
303 = pin arangement (2 male + 1 female)
303 = pin total number (3)

I have to disclose that I have no idea if the people I was talking to understood what I was wanting but this is what I have got.  I also found the same info on AKG message boards so I hope it is.  I tried to google the Lemo part # and could not come up with anyone who has that same part #.

Here is my recent response from lemo.  I was waiting to post here until i recieved the part and tested it but......

"Based on your description and if I assume a cable sheath diameter of 3mm, here is a link to a candidate part number,
http://intra.lemo.ch/PartSearch?part=FFA.0S.303.CLAC32 "

Lemo Part FFA.0S.303.CLAC32

I am also currently awaiting my tiny box from Jon at naiant and my belden 1804a.  Will report back once all the pieces are put together  ;D

Try searching through Lemo's catalog. Hope you have better luck finding the part you're looking for than I ever have - way too many options.  http://intra.lemo.ch/catalog/ROW/UK_English/unipole_multipole.pdf

You can also try their product search. From what I could find all the FFA are male. Looks like the corresponding female will be ERC.OS.303.xxx, EHP.OS.303.xxx PCA.OS.303.xxx PSA etc with all the .xxx being letters. http://intra.lemo.ch/WD150AWP/WD150Awp.exe/CONNECT/PartSearch Use Entertainment(microphone), 3 low voltage connectors, and OS series as your terms.

A direct search for FFA.OS.303.303 didn't find any results. http://intra.lemo.ch/WD150AWP/WD150Awp.exe/CONNECT/PartSearch?p1=partNumber

Good luck.

One other option is to send a note to your local Lemo distributor asking about that part. They might put you in touch with one of Lemo NAmerica's product engineers. I was looking for a connector for Beyer CV800s so I could make a remote capsule connection. One of their engineers wrote back and was very helpful, said their might be something they made that would work (about 30 possibilities depending on materials in the connector) but without either sending the mic or stopping in there wasn't much else he could recommend. Haven't had the opportunity to do either, maybe next month I'll be able to take the mic to them to see if they have something I can use.

The female version of the one i linked previously is PCA.0S.303.CLLC32
http://intra.lemo.ch/PartSearch?part=PCA.0S.303.CLLC32

If the males I have on order work then the above one would be used to build extension cables similar to the ones I had in the past.

Currently I could not find any available but the supplier i was dealing with can order them (the females) from lemo in lots of 10ea.

Checking back in. Ted, are you having a TB built for CKx caps?
I'm getting my Nak 700's>TB issue resolved and my next move will be a TB for the CKx caps.
My hang up there was the lemos and the power requirements for the caps but it looks like both have been solved.

I got this info from AKG regarding the CKx caps:

Thank you for contacting AKG.
Congratulations for your vintage AKG microphone.
The voltage needed is 12 V.
Please find the circuit diagram of the CK 1X.

Kind regards

Horst Burghauser
AKG intl. hotline
hotline@akg.com

Unfortunately the TB I'm using for my Naks will not power the CKx caps. :(
