My 14 yo daughter's first REAL stereo
« on: October 01, 2016, 07:20:24 PM »
NAD 3225PE integrated with phono stage, EBay refurb, looks and sounds new for $119.
Sanyo TP-600SA belt drive turntable (my old one 40 years ago, retrieved from my parent's house).  Refurbed by me.  Free!
Optimus Pro-7 speakers (metal cabinet).  Free.

She's got a nice collection of LPs and access to my 4K +.  System sounds better than it should!  She loves LPs, Satchmo, Nat and Mingus.  Plays alto in jazz band.  Relieved there's someone who will take custody of my LPs after I'm gone. :spin:

That's awesome.  I have four kids.  23 to 15.  All like classic rock.   My 17 yo daughter loves the analog stuff.  She too has "inherited" one of my stereos.  Her turntable was $8.99 from the goodwill!   Pioneer receiver.  BIC speakers that actually sound nice.  I think the turntable is a Technics.  Tiny adjustments and it sounds awesome.
A lot of people run a race to see who is the fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

I'm pretty sure it was a CEC 'table (rebadged by Sanyo and many others).  It's good for a slightly careless teen; the belt drive sounds good and the auto-return is a nice feature without it getting overly-complicated and hard to work on.

Those are just her LPs.  I have most of the catalogs of those guys.  I'm teaching her proper vinyl care before I let her near them!  :yack:

Happily, my older daughter's boy friend of long standing is into vinyl.  I figure that he is the most likely candidate to inherit my LPs.  They have been carted around the country several times, including several trips to and from Hawaii.  I figure I probably have more in moving costs than the value of the albums.  He is into 60s and 70s Rock as well.  Nice to know the stuff will have a place to go besides the Goodwill. ;D. Now I figure I need to get him into taping so my gear will have a home as well.

Yeah, but mostly through his work with Mingus.  It will take her some growing to truly enjoy the more out there stuff.  Plus she loves new pop/rock stuff, thankfully mostly good.

The first time she heard "The Creator Has A Master Plan" she was 9 or 10.  When it kind of disassembles halfway through:

Her:  What is that?!!
Me: Pharoah Sanders.
Her:  No, what IS that?
Me: The story of all there was, all there is, and all there will be, in 32 minutes.
Her:  <scowl>
