Chromebox apps for FLAC playback?
« on: June 21, 2016, 10:52:50 PM »
I've been thinking about ditching my old tower pc setup in favor of a Chromebox for playback and wondering if anyone has experience with this, and any recs for apps. Currently I'm using the pc tower with upgraded sound card > stereo via digital optical cable. Playback of FLACs from my external hard drives is managed by Foobar.

Has anyone shifted to Chromebox for FLAC playback, and if so, what app are you using?

Thanks

If your looking for a low cost/low energy use media player for FLAC I'd consider a Raspberry Pi 3 + Dragonfly DAC.

I haven't kept up with the best software to use, but maybe PLEX.

Also found this:

Seems like they have some high quality DAC options as well.

I have been using the Logitech squeeze server for a long time. It works for the type of playback you are looking for but has been around awhile

I have a squeeze touch but recently added a few amazon Fire tv devices to the mix. They act as the unit that interfaces with your stereo but the music and playback controlled by the app on my phone.  The fire tv gives you HDMI out as well as optical.
