TSKB: Computer gremlin is hard to pin down. SOLVED
« on: October 16, 2016, 02:49:18 PM »
I've spent the last few days without a DWS because it's become possessed. I posted my problem at Bleeping Computers, a help oriented tech site, and got some help but none so far that's worked. If anyone's team is on a bye this weekend and they like puzzles, I'd appreciate any contribution to the diagnosis you might have.

Link to the thread over there. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/629380/power-up-shut-down-rinse-repeat-crash-restart-wtf/

Thanks

I trust you've already gone to these (or similar) problem diagnosis steps?
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/diagnose-hardware-problems-computer-turn/

Have you already tried to boot from a Linux live distribution (on a DVD or a USB stick)? If the live medium is booted properly you could at least diagnose your hardware components. If it doesn't, you could at least exclude some potential culprits (like the OS or the HDD).

The system doesn't stay awake long enough for the optical drive to be recognized, so no Knopix to boot.

I'm in the process of trying a new power supply. Fingers crossed...

Well it was the PSU so I can now get to my backlog again! Woot!
