best CD ripping program for Windows 10?
« on: October 30, 2016, 02:06:45 PM »
I've got some old CD's and CDR's that for different reasons I'm not able to rip from my Mac, usually because the art work on the CDR itself is that DIY "printed on paper and affixed to the CD" crap which then bogs down the CD drive in the Mac.... so, I need to rip those from an external "ejectable tray" drive on my windows based machine.... went to the EAC page, and unless I'm missing something (easily possible) it doesn't seem to be compatible with Windows 10..... any suggestions??

I use Windows Media Player for ripping and find it perfectly acceptable. Just be sure to use the 'Rip Settings.... More Options' to get the format, quality and destination you want...

I use EAC without any issues with Windows 10 - I use both SATA and SCSI CD-ROM drives - no issues.

Unless it supports secure rips, drive offsets (or any per drive settings), accurip, Error correction, etc I can't see Windows Media Player for extracting audio from CD's as a real solution.

If you are simiply transfering audio for personal listening, all your CD's are perfect, and your not trying to back up your personal CD's maybe it's ok.

EAC can create cue sheets that track all indexes, pre-gaps, and hidden tracks (tracks in a pre-gap).

I think the only two trusted programs are EAC and XLD (on the mac)

I have transferred probably upwards of 2000 CD's with EAC and I would NEVER use anything other then EAC (also you will want a few completely different drives - sometimes one drive works better than others for different errored discs)

I use media monkey and it will name the tracks intelligently with your pre-determined mask or protocol.
