« on: July 24, 2003, 12:01:54 PM »
I am trying to go laptop right now and dont know what the fuck i have done wrong. I am going  usb out of my dmod UA5 and i can not get the thing to playback anything or pickup anything with my mics hooked up. I know the drivers and wavlab are installed right, any ideas. Settings maybe?

I run my UA-5 to Sound Forge.
Make Sure you have the Bit, and Sample Rate matching.  If not, you will have to close out the Program, and also power off the UA-5, and change the setting on the UA-5.  Make sure all of the Settings(Digi/Analog input, Sample Rate, ect) on the UA-5 are correct, because you cannot change them while the UA-5 is on, you have to have it off, for the changes to take affect.
Make sure you turn on the UA-5 BEFORE you open up the Computer Program.
Make sure you have the correct input selected(UA-5) in your PC Program.
Like i said, i never recorde dwith CD WAve, only SF, but im not sure if CDWAve accepts 24 bit.

I'm just taking a shot in the dark here, but what exactly does the digi-mod do?  Does it not bypass the circuitry that allows the ua5 to hook up to the computer?

No, you can always use the USB.  The Digi Mod, allows you to use the Optical/Coaxial outs withOUT  being connected to a PC.
So you dont have to run the USB, if you wanted to just run Opti/Coax.

I posted it wrong its wavlab 4.0g

Still, it may be one of the simple things i wrote earlier.
You may want to send mirth a messege...im almost positve he is running this set-up(but just a regular UA-5).  He is very familiar with Wavelab.
do you have the Mics, hooked up via XLR? or are you inputing them from the RCA/or 1/4" in the back.
Do you have the Phantom Poer Turned on?
Do you have it set to Analog source on the UA-5 for you mics?

If you have everything Matching (Program settings/UA-5 settings) and you Turn on the UA-5 before you open up Wavelab, you should be good to go.
Maybe someone else has another idea.

Another thing are you not seeing anything get recorded, or are you not hearing anything get recorded, because when i hooked up my UA-5 to my home PC, i couldnt hear the input via my pc speakers, becuase i didnt have it set up to play from that input...but when i went back and actaully played the SF File, it was fine.

The ua5 is picked as input.
No other recording programs. And now my laptop battery is about to die. I'll have to go get the cable after lunch.

Wehn you guys installed the ua5 drivers did you do advanced or standard?

Advanced.
Make sure the Advanced/Standard switch on the back of the UA-5 is set correctly also.
If its not, you will have to power off the UA-5 again and turn it back on for the change to take effect.

Yes, you have to be very careful in the field, not to hit any of those buttons or change any settings while you are recording...I messed up the Superjam at Bonnaroo, doing the exact same thing.  I had to shut off the UA-5, Close out SF, and the turn on the UA-5, and open up SF again.  I lost/messed up the first half of the set.
