Old Nak 700 plexiglass housing mod....
« on: October 03, 2006, 02:51:54 AM »
Does anyone know about this set up that was essentially a Nak CM700 shorty version (atten barrels) in a plexiglass housing.  Sort of PZMish in concept, ran in the early 80's usually into a DBX encoder?  I had some awesome audiences made with this set up and completely forgot about it until the recent Korby mod thread popped up.

My notes would suggest that this would be James Olness and Jaimie Poris's rig. Modded Nak CM-700s > dBx 224 > Sony TC-D5M. Perhaps the most well circulated recording from this setup are the Frost Amphitheater shows from 10/09-10/82.

Olness and Poris made totally sick tapes.  I have a 10/31/83 Marin Civic that just frickin' smokes.  Some others as well, my main source of auds back in the day were first/second gens from these guys.  Had to buy a DBX decoder to realize the full potential.  Now that I think about it, those tapes really sounded far superior to stuff that is getting transfered to the digital domain.  I wished more of their stuff circulated.
