Title: Film/Slide Scanner Recs?

I have thousands of family 35mm slides I'd like to digitize...

Anyone have any experience with these?

Anything to stay away from?

Looks like the good ones are over 2 grand...

More interested in the sub 500 dollar range...

I use an Epson flatbed for medium format and Nikon Coolscan V for slides and negative strips.  I read somewhere Nikon isn't servicing the Coolscan line anymore, but I never looked into it much. 

The Epson's are pretty good actually using their software or Vuescan.

canon's worked well for me and had an excellent user interface

Same, it does prints, slides, negatives and medium format film and I have been very pleased.

I make my living as a photographer. Several years ago I bought a Plustek scanner for a particular project. The resulting files were used recently to print a master set of prints of this work. Before using the Plustek, I'd had access to a Nikon Coolscan 9000. Almost unbelievably given the price difference, the Plustek's results were very close to the Nikon's--and far and away better than you'll get from any of the flatbed options, especially for 35mm slides. (I used a couple of different Epson flatbed scanners and always found them problematic--though for my 4x5 work there was little else that was affordable.)

This model is packaged with Silverfast SE; there is another with the higher end Silverfast AI software. The hardware is the same between the two.
