question about running 2 tascam dr-2d units
« on: August 24, 2014, 06:15:05 PM »
Recently picked up another dr-2d. Going to run 8 channels tonight. Wondering if the 2 units will have the same or similar clock speed in the end?

It will be similar but not the same exactly. Using some mixing software like sony vegas you can match the speeds up. I've done it with an m10 and dr-05

I tried matching 2 sources from the dr-2d and an iriver unit the other day with audacity using the math and it was nothong short of a pita to say the least. Hoping for better results this time around...

Still a PITA, but if you only need 6 channels it's somewhat easier if you duplicate one pair across both recorders.  It is much easier to perfectly align things when you have at least one channel on each with identical information in them.

Ran 8 channels lastnight. 2 pairs of mics and 2 sbd pulls. 1 pair of mics per recorder, 1 sbd pull per recorder and the clocking is almost identical. And thanks Gutbucket, I like the idea of duplicating the line source across both devices. May try this tonight...Thanks!

I also got 2x DR-2d now. I'm a bit sad that it's not the same speed, but still good to have them :) First it was very difficult to me too to match different sounds with different speed, I couldnt make 100% sure if the recorded sound was just a little different.

How I tried to check the speed difference: I put a jack cable to my PC that splits to 2 and recorded 1hr music with both recorders. Trying to check how much to correct with time warp (in %) in audacity/soundforge/goldwave, etc. That's what I did with Edirol R09HR - DR-2d difference too. Much easier to check whether its matched 100% if you compare absolutely the same sound.

If you once have the exact number, dont need to duplicate a source anymore.
