I am very interested to see how this works out.  Does the 12v by-pass the internal batteries?

Here's response from Doug on Battery set up:

Hi Chris, no worries, I'm not in any hurry. Yes, the way it is wired, it's either
the internal battery or the external battery. If they both worked together then
there would have to be a circuit that protects the batteries from each other. That
uses power and reduces runtime. If you have a weak internal then plug in an external
with no circuit protection, it will blow a fuse or, over time, cause both batteries
to swell and fail.

That would be nice but I don't there is a solution for it right now. At least I don't think Doug is interested in working on one. Chris may chime in on that perhaps.

took the combo out for a spin for NMA last Saturday...ran the ext battery for 3 1/2 hrs and it showed 75% charge left.
Ran the mk4's w/ gain knobs on pre at about 60%...sounds great as usual.
Will see if the drain rate increases more or holds steady with what's left on external.

i need this for the 148, but well, i think people have tried this before

The 148 has 48 volts of internal batteries and no DC - DC converter. You would need to hook it up to a 48 volt external battery.

I'm convinced Doug built the 148 around a 48 volt power supply he had lying around

Hell yes.  I can't wait to see what he comes up with.  An external option or a locking on/off switch.

Doug said he sourced a ultra quiet 12v to 48v DC converter for my 148 that will let me use same 12v external I'm using for the 248.
Good bye SLA's hopefully for the brick.
Will keep posted
