? about kc5 cables
« on: May 13, 2004, 02:51:58 AM »
Quick question about these cable. The price i see for these is around 360 bucks is that for one or two.  Cause 720 bucks seems high to me for active cables but i could be wrong.

$360 must be for one because I've seen 'em around for $720/pr.  Prices just went up, a pair used to go for around $550 or so.  Seems high?  Yup.  Even the AKG actives for the very affordable 39x's are expensive.

Yes, they are expensive, but I think worth every dime when you see what a small footprint it gives you, you can clamp anytime, anywhere and not be noticed :). I got a used pair for $500

the cable construction and material seems better than the neumann active cables.  haven't seen the akg ones.  only thing i didn't care for about the kc5's was that they had to be re-coiled in a particular way or they would get all tangled.  same with the kcy.  i know some guys would tape them together at 1-2 ft intervals to avoid the tangled mess.  never tried it myself.

anything schoeps is sooo much ;D One of the reasons I sold the mk4's to get the TL's, didn't feel like shelling out thousands to get omni and figure 8 caps.

all actives get fucked up and tangled. god, sometimes if I'm really messed up, takes forever to untangle them. and as neatly as you put them away, they can get tangled between shows. still love 'em though. ;D

Yeah, that's for sure.  NBox including the active cables is an excellent stealth value, IMO.  It's the damn KCY cables that make my Lemosax setup so damn pricey.  But I love the sound!   ;D
