MME Update V 12.0.9
« on: October 15, 2002, 04:23:17 PM »
OK,

got my new mme back from Apogee.  Intersting 2 things I noticed.  The wall power supply is 100% different from the one I had before.  This is now a cable that is detachable from a transformer sort of box that leads into the unit (also removable).  Second thing I noticed was they finally started printing their instruction books instead of a bound copy.  I'm not firing it up as its not mine anymore (I sold the new one to someone else and cancelled all my existing apogee orders)

Ha!  cancelled all orders, eh?  Gonna try out the V3?

I, personally, opted to not have my Mini-Me shipped last week.  I'm gonna compare it to the V3, and do some more testing with the one I have on loan (thanks Scotty!) before I decide what I'm gonna do.

Sounds like they took the power supply issue very seriously (as they should have).  Also, do you have your own mme now?  If so, congrats, hope this one doesn't "explode" as they would say in another forum.

I always owned it, but I've turned around and sold it for exactly what i paid for it.  I cancelled my order on mme #2 (was to do 4 point taping at 24/96)

I won't be going the V3 route.  Instead my rig will be 170's > sonosax > nuendo multiset (the a/d in here is really good) > sony vaio picturebook

well, fill me in on the Nuendo. I'm using a USB Pre right now, but it's always good to have a heads up about other products

The Nuendo (also known as the RME) multiset is an 8 channel a/d > pc card unit.  No pre's but it can handle 8 channels on your laptop!  Its a very solid, but pricey unit.  The a/d conversion is pretty good.  To me it reminds me of somewhere between the modsbm1 and the ad500 sound.

I'm thinking of picking one of those up.  My vx pocket is really starting to piss me off.  This thing also seems so much more versitile...if only I had the cash.

p.s. If for some reason you wanted to, could you use this box to transferd DATs?  I'm guessing so with the s/pdif I/O...

very true...the nuendo also has a much sturdier connection to the PC...the vx dongle sucks balls.

disadvantage... nuendo is around 1k with the pc card... and then you have to have a battery pack built for it.  The voltage stuff is off the wall with this one.

Ahh...didn't consider powering in the field.  Any idea on how you're doing it yet?  12V SLA?

My friends at Pro Digital are going to be building me a pack for it.  The know that It must be light enough that I don't need a mule, however I need to power the unit for up to 4 hours at a time on one battery and I want 3 batteries (for festivals)
