Title: Switching Cloud Drive Options?
Post by: rigpimp on August 06, 2018, 11:28:33 AM
I have used Dropbox Pro for many, many years.  I need the 1000TB as it is easier and safer than opening my NAS to the interwebs.

With the proliferation of cloud drive services I would consider switching.  I have a new Pixel 2 XL and am considering a jump to Google Drive.  It seems just as easy.

Any other opinions?  My only requirements are that I can sync it to a drive on my PC and that I get ~1000GB for about $100-$120 a year.  A bonus is being able to copy a public link to use as web seed when creating a torrent file.

I have until 8/21 before my Dropbox renews.  Convince me.

Been a while since I've used Drive as my main option and this may have changed but one thing I hated and why I switched back to dropbox was this.....

I have a lot of data so when I build a new machine, get a new laptop, or reformat instead of letting the software download all the data I like to copy from backup to the proper folder.  With dropbox it will check the data, compare to the cloud version and be done.  With drive it always got confused and would end up making duplicate folders.  Again this may have changed but it drove me crazy.....

As for the pixel 2 I have one as well and love it.  So I am using drive for the unlimited photos.  Other than that I have the dropbox app and can access all my docs etc easily on my phone.

That is an awesome tip and not one I would want to find after the fact, thank you!

The other thing that I am considering is just to dump all 12TB or so into S3 Glacier as backup and use 50GB of free Mediafire to host the current parts.

Keep the experiences coming in please!

quick google search shows it's still an issue.

From my experience Dropbox is still the leader in this area. I use it for all of my professional stuff with next to no complaints
